Seven California-bred 3-year-olds will match up at Del Mar Friday over seven furlongs in the 36th edition of the Real Good Deal Stakes.

The race, worth $175,000, is part of the Golden State Stakes Series, which has a total value of $4.85 million and is run at all of the state’s major race meets over the course of the year. Eight of those races are conducted at Del Mar this summer.

The horse to beat in the Real Good Deal could be George Sharp’s Kangaroo Court, a gelded son of Dads Caps who has three wins – including a tally in the Echo Eddie Stakes going six and a half furlongs at Santa Anita in April – on his ledger.

Tim Yakteen trains the chestnut who’ll be handled by top rider Juan Hernandez coming out of the No. 1 hole.

Chief threat to Kangaroo Court could be Bus Buzz, a gelding by Stay Thirsty who just missed to Kangaroo Court in the Echo Eddie.

He came back on May 28 to outrun an allowance field by six and a half lengths going six furlongs.
