The Boston College Eagles continue their tour of their old haunt, the Big East, as they face old Big East rival St. John's Monday in the bubble at Mohegan Sun in Uncasville, Conn.. The Eagles are 1-1 on the year, with their loss coming to another old Big East rival, Villanova. It's been over a decade since these two schools last played. It should be a good game between two pretty good power conference schools.

Red Storm off to a good start

The St. John's Red Storm have gotten off to a good start this season, going 2-0. They haven't really played any tough competition yet, but wins are wins. They opened the season with a narrow 76-75 win over St. Peter's and a solid 82-65 win over LaSalle. In the win over LaSalle on Thanksgiving Day, St. Johns shot 43% from the floor and made 6 threes. They also had 16 steals and turned LaSalle over 26 times.

Forward Vince Cole led the way with 19 points, 5 rebounds, and 4 assists, while Greg Williams had 13 points, 4 rebounds, and 2 assists. Marcellus Earlington added 14 points oft the bench while Dylan Addae-Wusu poured in 10 points. Josh Roberts had 4 points and 4 steals and Posh Alexander had 8 points and 3 steals. But They will all have to pick up their games to beat a good BC team Monday. Guard Julian Champagnie is questionable.

BC gets first win

The BC Eagles are 1-1 on the season, but even their loss was somewhat impressive. They gave No. 3 ranked Villanova all they could handle, eventually succumbing by the score of 76-67. But then they followed that up with their first win of the season, beating the Atlantic 10's University of Rhode Island 69-64 to improve to 1-1. The win earned them third place in the 2K Empire Classic at Mohegan Sun Arena. And they did it without their best player, Jay Heath, who was out with a foot injury. Heath scored a team-high 16 points in the season opening loss to Villanova but banged up his foot and missed this one versus URI.

URI led through most of the second half, but then BC got big 3s from bench players Luka Kraljevic and Rich Kelly to tie it at 48, then they took control from there. BC shot 42% from the floor but were only 20-34 from the charity stripe. They made 7 3s for 32% shooting from deep. Wynston Tabbs picked up the scoring slack left by Heath, with 16 points. He also had a team-high 10 rebounds. Steffon Mitchell added 15 points while Kelly tossed in 11. Heath remains questionable for Monday's game versus St. John's.

The Pick

Take the Eagles here to cover. The Eagles have a big question mark as to whether Heath will play. He hurt his foot in the first game and didn't play last game. If he plays and is 100%, I have far more confidence in this pick. But even if he doesn't play, I still feel Boston College will be able to cover. They are just a better team than St. Johns. They gave Villanova a scare before losing by 9 points and beat a good URI team without their best player. St. John's is 2-0 but both wins were against mid-major conference teams and one of them was a 76-75 squeaker. BC should win this easily, and even more easily with Heath on the floor.
