Its been a rough week for the Boston Celtics but they got moving back in the right direction Friday with a win over Indiana. Now they look to keep it going against a scrappy Washington Wizards team on Sunday. The Wizards and Celtics have split two games this year. The Celtics beat them on January 8 116-107 as 3.5 point favorites but then the Wizards won 104-91 as 6.5 point underdogs on February 14. The Celtics are favored at home but can they cover?
Wizards playing second night of back-to-backThe Wizards took on the Minnesota Timberwolves Saturday night. They continued their winning ways with a 128-112 win over Minnesota. It was their 7th win in 8 games and improved their record to 13-18. Bradley Beal led the Wizards with 34 points, 6 rebounds and 8 assists.
Russell Westbrook had a triple double with 19 points, 14 rebounds, and 12 assists. Garrison Mathews added 18 points and 9 rebounds while Davis Bertans had 19 points off the bench. The Wizards shot 45% from three-point range and out rebounded Minnesota 57-50.
Celtics get back on trackIt's been a tough week for the Boston Celtics. They had lost 4 of their last 5 games and dropped to 15-17, and out of the playoff race. They fell to 10th place in the conference. But they righted the ship somewhat with a 118-112 win over Indiana on Friday night. Jayson Tatum had a horrible game, shooting 4 for 18 from the floor and scoring only 9 points, but he got help from various other places, including the bench.
Kemba Walker was on fire tonight:— Hoop Central (@TheHoopCentral) February 27, 2021
Glad to see Kemba hoop. 🔥🔥 pic.twitter.com/QVz5pnJKYP
The big difference was Kemba Walker looked like his old self, scoring 32 points and dishing out 6 assists. Daniel Theis added 17 points while Jaylen Brown scored 15 points. Robert Williams had a big game off the bench with 14 points and 11 rebounds while Jeff Teague also chipped in with 14 points. They definitely need more production like this going forward from Walker and Teague.
Stats & Trends
- Wizards are 6-1 ATS in their last 7 games overall.
- Wizards are 4-1 ATS in their last 5 road games.
- Celtics are 2-9 ATS in their last 11 games vs. a team with a losing straight up record.
- Celtics are 3-12-1 ATS in their last 16 Sunday games.
The Celtics struggles have been well-documented throughout the NBA but one thing that has been overlooked is how well the Wizards are playing. When the Wizards beat the Celtics back on February 14, everyone thought, How did they lose to the Wizards? But that was the start of a 5 game winning streak for Washington and they have been playing really good basketball. They aren't going to win any rewards for their defense, but the Wizards can fill it up offensively. And the Celtics have been awful this year on Sundays. They are 3-12-1 in their last 16 Sunday games against the spread. This should be a close game, so take the Wizards here to cover.
