Where are they Now: 2014 Breeders’ Cup Winners

Filly and Mare Sprint Winner: Judy the Beauty – ACTIVE

Perhaps the ONLY returning champion that will be favored in 2015 to repeat as champion.  Has had a recent run of bad luck runner up and third place efforts, but with the right trip she’s still probably tops in this division.  One of the few 2014 winners that has stayed consistent.

Filly and Mare Turf Winner: Dayatthespa – RETIRED

The plan all along was to retire her after the Breeders’ Cup last year which they did as she went to the sales ring at Keeneland right after the event and sold for $2.1 million.  Soon after she took home the Eclipse Award for Turf Mare of the year.  She should enjoy retirement and produce some nice runners throughout the rest of her “second career.”

Juvenile Fillies Winner: Take Charge Brandi – RETIRED

Had immediate success right after the Breeders Cup and become the 2 Year Old Filly of the Year.  As for 2015…pretty much a disaster.  After winning the Martha Washington at Oaklawn she was inured and put on the shelf until early August.  When she returned she wasn’t anywhere close to the same and faded to last in both races.  She recently was retired with breeding plans pending.

Juvenile Fillies Turf Winner: Lady Eli – INJURED…FUTURE IN QUESTION

This one is real shame as Lady Eli came back like a pro and would most liking be the favorite in the Filly and Mare Turf this year.  However, and her huge Belmont Oaks win she stepped on a nail and has had a long battle with laminitis since.  The news has been nothing but positive lately about her progress, but obviously her future is in question.
