Okie Ride Attempts Third Career Win in Friday’s Silver Goblin Stakes at Remington Park

SOLID OKLAHOMA-BRED SPRINTERS ENTER SILVER GOBLIN STAKES

OKLAHOMA CITY – The $50,000 Silver Goblin Stakes, the feature this week on Friday night at Remington Park, boasts a solid field of Oklahoma-bred sprinters. The 6-1/2 furlong contest shapes up as a contentious battle amongst familiar foes.

Headlining the field of 11 is Okie Ride, the three-time winner of the Oklahoma Classics Sprint (2011, 2012, 2015). The venerable 8-year-old will try to gain his third win in Friday’s Silver Goblin Stakes after winning the race in 2012 and 2013. Owned by The Richter Family Trust of Perkins, Okla. and trained by Kenny Nolen, Okie Ride will have Luis Quinonez up in the Silver Goblin Stakes.

A winner of 12 races at Remington Park, and 14 overall, the well-managed Okie Ride will make just his 36th career start. His connections have made a successful habit of racing him only during the Remington Park season since 2013, giving him the remainder of the calendar off for rest and relaxation. Okie Ride boasts career earnings of $653,205 coming into the Silver Goblin Stakes, $564,133 of that has been made at Remington Park.

Okie Ride did not win either the Silver Goblin Stakes or the Oklahoma Classics Sprint last year, due to foes he will again face on Friday night.

– Johnny Whip won the 2014 edition of the Silver Goblin with Okie Ride three-quarters of a length back as the runner-up. Johnny Whip will attempt to win the race for a second straight year, leaving the starting gate from post-position two.

– Chifforobe won the 2014 Oklahoma Classics Sprint with Okie Ride second beaten just a neck. Chifforobe attempts to win his first Silver Goblin Stakes on Friday after running sixth in the race a year ago.

The Silver Goblin Stakes is named after the speedy gray millionaire, and Oklahoma foal, who was a dominant runner throughout the mid and late 1990s. The field by post position and program number, with trainer and jockey is:

1.    Fleet Mitchy: J.R. Caldwell, Iram Diego
