Oaklawn Report #6

Three Stars of the Week

– 1st Star: Far Right (KY) – If you doubted him before…you sure can’t now!  The Ron Moquett trained Far Right has now one both the Smarty Jones and Southwest Stakes in similar come from behind fashion.  Mike Smith has also given this horse two incredibly smart rides, as the rail has been open and Smith has taken advantage.  The plan is for this horse to skip the Rebel, and point for the Arkansas Derby.  Either way, Moquett looks to have a Kentucky Derby horse!

– 2nd Star: Spring Included (KY) – After almost defeating Sugar Shock in the American Beauty two races back, Spring Included proved that race was no fluke when she comfortably won the Spring Fever Stakes over a determined Heykittykittykitty.  The win is her fourth in eleven starts, and the first stakes win of her career.  There are plenty of options for what is next for her, including a try at graded stakes competition.

– 3rd Star: Poseidon’s Way (KY) – It’s looks as though Poseidon’s Way has stamped himself a ticket to the Rebel Stakes, as he dominated a first level allowance race on Thursday filled with some good horses.  He is one trainer Donnie K Von Hemel has liked for awhile now, and after disappointing in his first race back, he more than made up for it next time.  The Rebel will be a whole other ball game, but that’s the next step for him.

Flop of the Week

Conquest Curlinate (ON) – This one was supposed to win that allowance race that Poseidon’s Way dominated, but instead finished a flat third.  You obviously can’t give up on a three year old this quickly, but it was clear he didn’t have that same turn of foot this time as he did in his impressive maiden race score.  We’ll see where he ends up next time and if he can bounce back.
