Oaklawn Report #11

Three Stars of the Week

– 1st Star: Weast Hill (AR) – This week we focus entirely on the Arkansas breds!  We’ll start off with Weast Hill who was easily the most impressive horse of the weekend as he dominated the Rainbow Stakes on Sunday in wire to wire fashion.  He’s now an undefeated two for two, and will be heading to Churchill Downs next where trainer Brad Cox says they’ll try a small stakes against open company.  With his early speed I think there is a chance he’ll be able to compete.

– 2nd Star: Trace Creek (AR) – He dropped back into state bred company on Friday in the Arkansas Breeders’ Stakes, and was able to score a big victory by a half length.  The win gave trainer Kenny McPeek his first stakes win at Oaklawn Park, and most likely will be a stepping stone back to open company for Trace Creek.  Look for him at Keeneland or Churchill Downs next time out.

– 3rd Star: Be My Caroline (AR) – She broke her maiden in style in February, and then came back on Saturday to just hold on to win the Rainbow Miss Stakes.  She’s now two for three lifetime, all against Arkansas bred company.  There are plenty of options next for her, and I’m sure she’ll give it a go against open company soon.

Flop of the Week

We Be Stormin (AR) – He actually didn’t run all that bad, but he was a heavy favorite who never got close to Weast Hill in the Rainbow Stakes, and was also beaten by a first timer.  Unlike his counter part Weast Hill, I don’t think We Be Stormin will do well outside of Arkansas Bred company.
