History of the Triple Crown

This Saturday American Pharoah will attempt to achieve horse racing immortality and become the 12th Triple Crown winner in racing history, and the first horse to accomplish the feat since 1978.  In the following days we’ll have wall to wall handicapping coverage of this historic Belmont Stakes, but today we thought it would be nice to look back at the history of the Triple Crown.  Who were the 11 winners and who were some of the near misses?  Find out below as we look back at history.
