Del Mar Report #6

Del Mar Report #6

Three Stars of the Week

– 1st Star: Shared Belief (KY) – He’s the most talented horse in the country now, and has his sights set on California Chrome in an ultimate showdown!  Chrome still has a resume edge over Shared Belief, but we believe Shared Belief can beat him in a head to head matchup.  Either way, his Pacific Classic win was simply brilliant.  The undefeated streak continues!

– 2nd Star: Goldencents (KY) – Now that’s the Goldencents we know all to well.  He set a new track record for seven furlongs at Del Mar, and looks primed and ready to go back to back in the Breeders Cup Mile.  To me the idea is simple: put him on the lead and let him go with wire to wire.  He can totally outclass almost any field he faces at that distance.

– 3rd Star: Tom’s Tribute (KY) – He loved that Del Mar turf course this meet!  Back to back victories in stylish fashion have him leaving Del Mar in top form, and could be setting him up for a run at the Breeders Cup.  Keeping jockey Mike Smith on his back is imperative to his chances as the races get tougher.

Flop of the Week

Obviously (IRE) – Not his best race on Sunday, and kind of a strange ride to set pretty fast fractions like he did.  We’ve seen this before…look for him to rebound with a big performance next time out.
